Porzellan-Gaiwans

Tang Dynasty (618–907): Early yingqing porcelain gaiwans were made in Jingdezhen’s dragon kilns. They became gifts for the emperor.

Song Dynasty (960–1279): The qingbai glaze was perfected. It had a jade-like look that was used in Zen tea rituals. In the 18th century, European kings ordered cobalt-blue designs. This started "China’s porcelain fever." UNESCO Recognition: In 2023, Jingdezhen’s porcelain craftsmanship was recognized for keeping 72 ancient techniques alive. These include: Feather Brushing, which uses rabbit-hair brushes dipped in cobalt. Eggshell Firing creates wares that are 0.2mm thin and need 13 steps of temperature control.

Did You Know? A single workshop in Jingdezhen makes 1,000 gaiwans each month. Only 20 of these pass museum-grade inspection. A porcelain gaiwan is not just a tool; it teaches us. Its blankness shows our own ideas about tea.
